Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among body image, self-esteem, and behavior problems in school children.
Methods : The data was collected from December 2, 2008 to May 25, 2009. The subjects consisted of 405 elementary students and their parents in D city. The data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson"s correlation coefficient using SPSS/WIN program and Canonical correlation using SAS 9.1 TS.
Results : Body image, self-esteem, and behavior problems were significant difference in age, sibling relationship, peers" relationship, parents"s relationship, father"s educational background and economic state. Behavior problems showed negative correlation with body image and self-esteem. Canonical correlation analysis of 2 sub-domains of behavior problems showed that internalized problems made the highest contribution to predicting body image and self-esteem.
Conclusions : To decrease behavior problems, influencing factors (age, interpersonal relationship, economic state), body image, and self-esteem should be included nursing intervention programs in school children.
